Le Commentaire sur le Psaume 118 d'Ambroise de Milan appartient à la longue
tradition exégétique patristique qui sera d'ailleurs continuée après lui. Le psaume est, selon Origène dont Ambroise s'inspire largement, tout entier éthique. L'évêque de Milan attribue une signification étymologique à chacune des lettres hébraïques commençant chaque strophe du psaume afin d'en orienter la réflexion en la dotant d'une problématique qu'il se permet toutefois de dépasser.

Abstract
The Commentary on Psalm 118 from Ambrose of Milan belongs to the long patristic and exegetical tradition continuing after him. The psalm, according to Origen, the primary source of Ambrose, is entirely ethical. The Bishop of Milan attributes an etymological meaning to each of the Hebrew letters beginning each stanza of the psalm in order to guide reflection on it by providing it with a guideline that he, however, allows himself to go beyond.
