Les premiers romans en prose du Moyen Âge français à; s'organiser en superstructures cycliques (i. e. plusieurs romans distincts coordonnés chronologiquement et composant un cycle dans le récit et dans les manuscrits) mettent en scène des jeunes héros appelés à; devenir les héros du cycle et que l'on suit biographiquement jusqu'à leur mort. Après la première trilogie du Graal et le cycle du Lancelot-Graal, le Tristan en prose (c. 1230-1250) se présente, lui, non comme un développement de l'histoire du Graal en soi mais comme un complément latéral du Lancelot-Graal.

Abstract
The first prose novels of the French Middle Ages to organize themselves into cyclical superstructures (i.e. several distinct novels coordinated chronologically and composing a cycle in the narrative and in the manuscripts) feature young heroes called à̀ becoming the heroes of the cycle and who are followed biographically until their death. After the first Grail trilogy and the Lancelot-Grail cycle, the Tristan in prose (c. 1230-1250) is presented not as a development of the Grail story per se but as a lateral complement to the Lancelot-Grail.
