Abstract
This research is organized around three themes, with the same objective : to gain a better comprehension of the place of the religion in the army of the king of France, and of the relationship between soldiers and religion. This is particularly important given the reputation of soldiers as violent, alcoholic, gambler, blasphemer and who rarely goes to church, except perhaps before a battle. Yet, religion was an important part of everyday life during the Ancien Régime, and ecclesiastical institutions and personnel were present throughout the kingdom.
