Le projet sera axé sur les théâtres et les sanctuaires des provinces du nord-ouest de l'Empire romain. En étudiant ces ensembles sous deux angles différents (la relation entre les édifices destinés aux spectacles et les espaces sacrés, ainsi que la topographie des lieux), il aura pour objectif d'étudier la fonction de ces édifices et ensembles, afin de comprendre le moment, les modalités et les raisons de leur interaction.
Objectifs :
a.) Grâce à une approche multidisciplinaire (recherches basées sur des sources matérielles, architecturales, littéraires, épigraphiques et historiques, ainsi que sur la bibliographie), la relation entre les édifices destinés aux spectacles et les espaces sacrés associés sera étudiée, afin de comprendre le moment, les modalités et les raisons de leur interaction, d'un point de vue architectural et rituel ;
b.) Étudier la topographie et la destination de ces bâtiments, afin de comprendre le moment, les modalités et les raisons de leur interaction, d'un point de vue spatial et fonctionnel.

Subject details
The thesis will be centred on theatres and sanctuaries in the north-western provinces of the Roman Empire. By investigating such complexes from two different points of view (the relationship between spectacle buildings and sacred areas, and the topography of the places), its aim will be to study the destination of such buildings and complexes, to understand the timing, the ways of, and reasons for, their interaction. Objectives: a.) Through a multidisciplinary approach (enquires based on material, architectural, literary, epigraphic and historical sources, bibliography) the relationship between the spectacle buildings and the related sacred areas will be investigated, in order to understand the timing, the ways of, and reasons for, their interaction, from an architectural and ritual point of view; b.) To study the topography and destination of these buildings, in order to understand the timing, the ways of, and reasons for, their interaction, from a spatial and functional point of view.
