[04/06/2024] PhD award from the Université de Lorraine for the Doctoral School IAEM Lorraine
The 2023 thesis prize was awarded to Ms Elena PETRI for her work in Automation, Signal Processing and Computer Engineering entitled ‘Hybrid techniques for state estimation: event sampling and performance improvement’, carried out at CRAN under the supervision of Romain POSTOYAN.
Elena carried out her thesis work at CRAN. She was awarded a doctoral contract by the University of Lorraine via the Lorraine University of Excellence scheme as part of the IDEX/I-SITE excellence initiatives. This thesis was supervised by Romain Postoyan (thesis director, CRAN), Dragan Nesic (co-supervisor, University of Melbourne) and Daniele Astolfi (co-supervisor, LAGEPP). Elena spent three months at the University of Melbourne in autumn 2022. Elena's work focuses on state estimation of dynamic systems. This central theme in automatic control raises a number of major open problems, including the design of observers under communication constraints and the synthesis of high-performance observers whose convergence and robustness are guaranteed analytically. The originality of Elena's work lies not only in providing innovative solutions to these two problems, but also in exploiting and developing methodological tools from the theory of hybrid dynamical systems for this purpose. Indeed, while hybrid control techniques have recently demonstrated their ability to facilitate the synthesis of controllers and even to overcome the fundamental limitations of continuous controllers for dynamic systems in continuous time, very few results have followed this path for estimation.
The thesis prize will be awarded at the doctoral graduation ceremony on 29 November.
[2/12/2023] Information meeting of the Doctoral School IAEM
The information meeting took place on November 30. The number of participants this year was very high, 79 PhD students, as evidenced by the photo below. I hope that the information provided will have been useful to you for the smooth running of your PhD.
The slides of the different presentations are available for download on the Presentation page, tab "Minutes and other documents".
[12/11/2023] Annoucement of the information meeting of the Doctoral School IAEM
An information meeting for first-year PhD students at the IAEM Doctoral School will take place on Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 2:00 to 4:30 pm at Amphitheater VG8, Faculté des sciences in Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy (detailed drawings at https://fst.univ-lorraine.fr/node/183).
The presence of students enrolled in the first year of their PhD since the last academic year is mandatory.
The students' supervisors are also cordially invited to participate in this information meeting.
This afternoon is an opportunity for doctoral students to meet the director, to know the operation of the Doctoral School and to learn about the training modules to be followed throughout the doctorate and the rights and duties of the doctoral student.
The meeting will end with a time of exchange in the form of a snack (coffee, drinks, cookies, etc.).
Sign up now via your Adum account (in your "Espace Personnel" section "Formations" and select "Réunion de rencontre doctorants 1A et Directeur ED"). Attendance at this meeting will be counted as 1 training credit.
The Doctoral School will pay for the travel of PhD students from Metz, Longwy and Epinal. To do so, it will be necessary to inform your mission using the Notilus application (get in touch with Souad Boutaguermouchet for more information).
