IAEM - Présentation

IAEM - Lorraine

The IAEM-Lorraine Doctoral School organizes doctoral training in the fields of Computer Science, Automatic Control, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Architectural Sciences within the Université de Lorraine.

It is supported by 11 laboratories and laboratory teams. 6 laboratories are attached to the AM2I scientific cluster (Automation, Mathematics, Computer Science and their Interactions), 1 to the BMS cluster (Biology, Medicine, Health), 1 to the M4 cluster (Materials, Materials, Metallurgy, Mechanics) and 1 to the EMPP cluster (Energy, Mechanics, Processes, Products). The other two units are attached to other institutions, the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Nancy for the MAP-CRAI and CentraleSupelec (establishment in shared delivery) for UMI Georgia Tech. bringing together the CRAN, LORIA and IECL laboratories offers a space for scientific collaboration in the form of theses that bring together two disciplines: automatic control, computer science and mathematics. The Centre Inria Grand Est is a non-delivering partner of the Doctoral School.

The scientific population consists of more than 550 researchers, 300 of whom are qualified to supervise theses. The IAEM-Lorraine Doctoral School manages a little over 320 PhD students.

It trains about 90 doctors annually, mainly in the scientific fields of Mathematics and Information Science and Technology. The specialities currently issued and their calculated proportions over the 2016-2020 contract are:

  • computer science (41 %) ;
  • automatic control, signal and image processing (31.5 %) ;
  • mathematics (13 %) ;
  • electrical engineering (8 %) ;
  • electronic systems (5.5 %) ;
  • architectural sciences (1 %).

ED IAEM-Lorraine is an actress of the: Lorraine College Board for Doctoral Studies (CLED in french) and interacts with the other doctoral schools of the Université de Lorraine within this college.

The Doctoral School mainly manages the doctoral work, but the Scientific Council of the University of Lorraine has also delegated to it the task of examining the applications for the Authorization to Conduct Research (Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches - HDR) in the disciplines concerned.

Executive Committee

The Director of the IAEM-Lorraine Doctoral School is assisted by an Executive Committee, composed of eight members who are currently:

  • François CHAROY and Emmanuel JEANDEL for the Computer Science and Architecture Sciences fields
  • Eric LEVRAT and Nathalie SAUER  for the Automatic Control, Signal and Image Processing and Computer Engineering fields
  • Melika HINAJE and Philippe POURE for Electronic Systems and Electrical Engineering fields
  • Laurent THOMANN and Hervé OYONO-OYONO for Mathematics fields

The Executive Committee ensures the expertise of the thesis admission files, the expertise of the juries, the support of the doctoral students' follow-up. It implements the decisions of the Doctoral School Board.
