Mobility grants and foreign study grants

 

To find the programme best suited to your mobility, you should distinguish between:

  • Short stays, for a symposium for example. In this case, your laboratory and/or Doctoral School may contribute to your travel expenses. Consult your Doctoral School.
  • Research stays at a foreign university may be in the context of cotutelle or co-supervision, or otherwise. They are long stays (one academic year or several six-month periods). Grants can fund your travels and stays abroad. The best known is undoubtedly Erasmus+ but other, lesser known support schemes can also be of interest. You will find a few examples below: PhD students enrolled at the University of Lorraine can take advantage of the DrEAM program.

Erasmus+

 

The new Erasmus+ programme aims to support actions in the fields of teaching, training, youth and sport for the period 2014-2020. Erasmus+ provides financial support to a wide range of actions and activities in the above fields.


The programme aims to give students, trainees, staff and, in general, young people under 30, with or without qualifications, a chance of spending some time abroad to improve their skills and increase their employability.

The DocMASE programme


Supported by Erasmus+, the DocMASE (Joint European Doctoral Programme in Advanced Materials Science and Engineering) is an international programme involving universities in Germany, France, Spain and Sweden.

EIFFEL grants

 

Awarded for 10 months maximum, the Eiffel grant programme is a tool developed by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs to encourage French higher education institutions to attract the best foreign students to Master’s and PhD courses.

"AUF EUGEN IONESCU" doctoral research grants

 

Convinced that international exchanges promote circulation of knowledge, the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie supports academic mobility for students and teacher-researchers. The agency allocates grants each year enabling beneficiaries to pursue some of their training and research in other universities.

Grant programs depending on the country

 

 There are numerous programmes encouraging international exchanges. They depend on countries with which incoming or outgoing mobility is envisaged. Consult the 'Grant Programme Directory on the Campus France website.

A few examples :

 

Canada Mobility

 

An agreement signed between the University of Lorraine and the Canadian organization MITACS guarantees 50 scholarships annually to students of the University of Lorraine to carry out research stays in an academic institution or research centre in Canada.
