Simple mobility

You can spend a variable amount of time (usually 3 to 6 months) in a foreign laboratory. If you wish to do so, you must first of all inform your Doctoral School and laboratory. You will then need to sign a hosting agreement drawn up by the Promotion and Innovation Division.

International PhD cotutelle

International cotutelle is a means of obtaining a PhD diploma both in France and the partner country/university in the form of two diplomas or one joint diploma.

Student therefore prepares their PhDs under the joint supervision of two thesis supervisors in each of the two countries concerned, and carry out their research in both countries. They are administratively enrolled in both universities but exempt from payment of fees in one of the two establishments. International cotutelle conditions must be set by an agreement.

In order to find out how to set up a cotutelle agreement, consult our detailed guide.

To apply for a cotutelle, complete the online questionnaire.

International co-supervision

The international co-supervision scheme enables PhD students to conduct their research under the supervision of two thesis supervisors, one at the University of Lorraine and the other in a foreign university. Unlike the cotutelle system, the PhD student is enrolled in a single establishment, the one that will issue the diploma after defence of the thesis. Co-supervision conditions must be set by an agreement

The european label

This is a label certifying a PhD’s European aspects. It is awarded in addition to the PhD issued by a European university when certain conditions are met.

The UniGR label

The “University of the Greater Region” Doctorate Label certifies the PhD’s European aspects. PhD students are supervised by a Thesis Supervisor in their universities of origin and by a co-supervisor from another UniGR university. Consult all the conditions for obtainment of the label.
