[20/07/2023] AMIES maths-business thesis prize 2022

Philippe Marchner is a finalist for the awarding of the AMIES maths-entreprise 2022 thesis prize. His thesis work in mathematics entitled "Non-reflecting boundary conditions and domain decomposition methods for industrial acoustics in the presence of flow" was carried out within IECL and Siemens under the joint supervision of Xavier Antoine (University of Lorraine) and Christophe Gueuzaine (University of Liège) and with the co-supervision of Hadrien Bériot working at Siemens Digital Industries Software in Leuven.

The maths-company thesis prize was created in 2013 to promote Mathematics theses carried out in part in collaboration with a company and having direct repercussions for it. It is sponsored by the math societies SFdS, SMAI and SMF.

The thesis prize will be awarded during the Forum Entreprises & Mathématiques, on October 10, 2023 at the CNAM in Paris.

[28/06/2023] PhD award from the Université de Lorraine for the Doctoral School IAEM Lorraine

The 2022 PhD award was delivered to Mr. Ruben Louis for his work in mathematics entitled "The universal higher algebras of singular spaces and their symmetries" conducted within the IECL under the direction of Camille Laurent-Gengoux.

Ruben Louis

Holder of a bachelor's degree in mathematics obtained from the École Normale Supérieure (ENS) of the State University of Haiti in 2017, a partnership between this establishment and the University of Poitiers then allowed Ruben, noticed by his teachers, to prepare a Master's degree in mathematics and to carry out his end-of-study internship, from March to July 2019, in France as part of Erasmus + funding. On the strength of this Master's degree, Mr. Ruben Louis was recruited for a PhD by Camille Laurent-Gengoux, Professor at the University of Lorraine within the Elie Cartan Institute in Lorraine on a subject of fundamental mathematics relating to the study of the links between singularities and symmetries. Indeed, in physics, many modern theories will make it possible to build a theory invariant by all symmetries (the group of general relativity for example). The tools and methods developed are based on notions such as singular foliations and Lie-Rinehart algebras developed in geometry but which allow a very rich algebraic structure, which can be used to study their singularities.

The thesis prize will be awarded during the doctoral graduation ceremony which will take place on November 24th.

The major Haitian daily "Le Nouvelliste" gave an article to this recognition (see press extract - in french).

[28/02/2023] Scientific Day in AI - JSIA 2023

The "scientific day in AI" took place on February 28, 2023 in amphitheater 8 of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Lorraine. The objective of this day, which followed the first edition of November 24, 2021, was to bring together the actors of the Grand Est Region around AI. The partners of this edition were therefore the 5 universities of the region (University of Strasbourg, University of Lorraine, University of Haute Alsace, University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne and University of Technology of Troyes), the Center INRIA Grand Est and GrandEnov+ (today's program).

A big thank you to all the doctoral students (from the 5 universities) who responded to the call for poster submissions. The two galleries of Amphitheater 8 thus hosted 40 research contributions illustrating the diversity of the development of methods and uses of AI.
